The attractive textured lace border is knit at the same time as the center area of maple leaves. Thus, the knitting is done entirely from end-to-end in one piece with no picked up stitches or seams to sew.

10" by 64" or length desired. 400 yards of laceweight yarn, 19½ stitches=4 inches, size US 6 / 4.0 mm needles suggested. Charted and written stitch instructions.

If you are inspired to spin yarn for your scarf, you might want to look up the article "Spanish Moss and Southern 'Belles'", written by Jackie E-S. This article tells the story of making this yarn and the scarf (and also the Chevron Lace Gardens silk blouse) . Published in Winter 1999 issue of Spin-Off from Interweave Press.

Here are other examples of the Maple Leaves Lace Scarf to help inspire your own creations. The scarf to the left was knitted in 2-ply yarn handspun from handpainted tussah silk roving. The scarf to right was made in Heritage Yarns hand-painted silk/rayon What A Wonderful World colorway. The effect is reminiscent of the changing colors of leaves in the fall.
